Good afternoon, this is Jenny with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Thursday, May 17 at 3:30 p.m.

The ESA contest no. 3 is taking place at The Washout this weekend, and is being sponsored by Ocean Surf Shop. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A POINTS CONTEST. Come on by the shop and register.

Also, we have new Generator SUPs by SurfTech. They are great boards, and around $900. A great way to get into the sport without having to break the bank.

The surf at the Pier is shin to knee and a bit bumpy. The Washout is seeing sets in the thigh range. We have SSE winds at 11 kts right now. We have a line of severe thunderstorms to our west that we are watching, and if the beach sees any of that action, we could have a clean up session this evening.

Tide is coming in, it’ll be high at 6:28 pm.

Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 ft @ 8 sec. that’s up from this morning’s reading of 2.3 ft @ 5.5 seconds.

The National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “BROAD LOW PRESSURE WILL LINGER ACROSS GEORGIA AND THE CAROLINAS INTO TONIGHT. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SOUTHWARD INTO THE REGION ON FRIDAY AND WILL LINGER ALONG THE EASTERN SEABOARD THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THE HIGH WILL DISSIPATE MONDAY.”

As high pressure builds to our north starting late tonight, we’ll see choppy, high angled north-east wind swell for the weekend. Hopefully there will be enough east in the swell to push some waves into our beaches, and it looks promising for the contest this weekend.

Right now it is 79* and sunny at the beach

Water temp is around 77*.

Sunset is around 8:14 p.m., with last light at around 8:41 p.m.

Thanks for checking out Ocean Surf Shop.

Good afternoon , this is Cat with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Tuesday, May 15 at 3:00 P.M.

The ESA points contest no. 3 is taking place at The Washout this weekend, and is being sponsored by Ocean Surf Shop. Come on by the shop and register. Looks like there will be some waves for the contest.

We currently have SSW winds @ 10-15kts

The surf at the Washout is thigh to waist high, and mushy. It has some texture on it from the southerly winds, but has potential.

high tide will be at 4:56 p.m. low will be this evening at 11:11 PM

Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft. with an average period of 7 seconds. So, there is some swell out at the buoy.

The National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast calls for: ” A VERY WEAK COLD FRONT WILL LINGER IN THE AREA THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY…BEFORE DISSIPATING IN THE NEARBY ATLANTIC. STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD FROM THE NORTH AND NORTHEAST LATE IN THE WEEK…RESULTING IN AN INCREASE IN WINDS AND SEAS.

Small, choppy south wind waves continue today, and mid-week looks small, but late week looks to kick up some north-east wind swell as high pressure builds to our north, and there is a possibility of low forming off of a stalled front just offshore late weekend, which could produce some swell for Sunday into Monday.

We have a 30% chance of rain today with an expected high of 82*. It’s 75* and sunny out at the beach this morning.

Water temp is around 76*.

Sunset is around 8:12 p.m., with last light at around 8:39 p.m.

Thanks for checking out Ocean Surf Shop.

The surf at the Washout is thigh to waist high, and closing out. It has some texture on it from the southerly winds, but has potential to build to rib high on the incoming tide this afternoon, as it looks like some of the swell offshore is filtering into the beach.

The National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast calls for: ” A BROAD AND WEAK AREA OF LOW PRESSURE AND A TRAILING COLD FRONT WILL MOVE VERY SLOWLY TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST COAST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK…BEFORE SHIFTING INTO THE WESTERN ATLANTIC THURSDAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL THEN BUILD IN FROM THE NORTH FRIDAY.”

Onshore wind from the south is forecast for the next few days, so we should continue to see small choppy wind waves through Tuesday. Mid week looks small, but late week looks to kick up some north-east wind swell as high pressure builds to our north. This will push in high angled north wind swell. Central Florida will be the call for the weekend, if you’d like some chest high wind chop, as the angle of the swell might push the biggest waves to our south, but likely something to ride.

NOAA Surface weather maps show an open ocean low forming off of a frontal boundary near the Carolina Coast late Saturday into Sunday. This would push a significant swell our way Sunday, into early next week (Sunday/Monday, May 20/21). There would likely be some north-east winds with the swell, until it moves to our north Monday, and the swell could begin to clean up. THIS IS A LONG WAY OUT, so we’ll keep an eye on it, as it has yet to be incorporated into the NOAA marine weather forecast, as of yet.

Check the frontal forecast from NOAA to see the low pressure system off of our coast.

Good afternoon, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Monday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m.

We currently have south winds at 8 to 12 knots. Expect south winds to continue this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots, keeping surf choppy.

The surf at the Washout is running knee to thigh high at this incoming tide, with a waist set. It is choppy, weak and breaking close together. Occasionally there’s a little ride at The Washout, and a few guys are out getting wet. Surf should drop small again late afternoon as the tide backs out around dark.

High tide will be at 4:04 p.m.

Edisto buoy is still reading 3.6 ft. with an average period of 5 seconds in weak southerly wind swell.

Onshore wind from the south is forecast for tomorrow, so we should continue to see small choppy wind waves through Tuesday. Mid week looks small, but late week looks to kick up some north-east wind swell as high pressure builds to our north, and there is a possibility of low forming off of a stalled front just offshore this weekend, which could produce some swell.

We have a 60% chance of rain today with an expected high of 78*.

Water temp is around 76*.

Sunset is around 8:12 p.m., with last light at around 8:39 p.m.

Good afternoon, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf update for Sunday, May 13 at 1 p.m.

We currently have pretty strong south/south-east winds at 15 to 18 knots. Expect south-east winds to continue this afternoon at 15 knots, keeping surf choppy.

The surf at the Washout is running thigh to waist high. There might be a stomach high peak, but it has poor form. It is choppy and sectioning-off. Size could build some this afternoon in south wind swell with choppy conditions.

We have an incoming tide, high at 3:09 p.m.

Edisto buoy is reading 5.2 ft. at 7 seconds in southerly wind swell, so the swell offshore at the buoy is picking up. That’s is up from this morning’s reading of 4.9 ft. at 6 seconds.

The National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast calls for: ” .ATLANTIC HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE LITTLE THROUGH TONIGHT…AS WEAK LOW PRESSURE AND ITS TRAILING COLD FRONT REMAIN FAR TO THE WEST ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY. THE LOW WILL LINGER IN THE VICINITY OF THE SOUTHEAST COAST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK…BEFORE MOVING OVER THE WESTERN ATLANTIC THEREAFTER.

With this onshore flow from the south forecast for the next few days, we should continue to see choppy wind waves through Tuesday in small wind-generated ground swell.

We have a 40% chance of rain and thunderstorms today punctuated by periods of sunshine and a high of 75*.

Water temp is around 76*.

Traffic is moderately busty this afternoon at the beach.

Sunset is around 8:11 p.m., with last light at around 8:38 p.m.

Thanks for checking out Ocean Surf Shop.

Good afternoon this is J. with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m.

We currently have East winds at 10 to 15 knots.

The surf at the Washout is running in the ankle to knee high range and choppy

We have a High tide at 1:10 p.m. and another Low tide tide at 7:10 p.m. tonight.

Edisto buoy is reading 2.6 feet at 6 seconds

HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE OFF THE EAST COAST AND INTO THE ATLANTIC TODAY AND EXTEND ACROSS THE WATERS THROUGH TONIGHT…AS WEAK LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS OVER THE GULF COAST REGION. THE LOW WILL MOVE INTO THE SE EARLY NEXT WEEK…BEFORE MOVING INTOTHE ATLANTIC BY THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.

The surf should pick up for Sunday as high pressure creates an onshore flow. We should expect waist to stomach high surf in a Bermuda high wind, ground swell combo through mid week.

It is partly-cloudy at the beach this afternoon, with a temp of 75*.

Water temp is around 75*.

Sunset is around 8:10 p.m.

Thanks for checking out Ocean Surf Shop.
