Good morning, this is Annie with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, December 20, at 8:30 a.m.
Come see us and let’s talk about this miserable flat spell if you are out on the island for the holiday. All we want for Christmas is some SURF!
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee high maybe slightly bigger.
Winds are south-west at 5 to 10 knots, and surf is side-shore with clean faces and weak.
We see strong south-west winds ahead of a cold front this afternoon at 15 to 20. This will keep surf choppy and drifty.
We have a high tide at 8:58 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:09 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:03 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 3 ft. at 4.5 sec. in very short period south/south-west wind swell and very small south-east swell.
It sounds like a broken record, that we see small clean surf for today, and we have weak winds and weather today. We could see surf pick up tomorrow afternoon as seas build from the north-east after a cold front passage overnight, this drops and fades out Friday morning. Surf looks small Friday afternoon and Saturday as high pressure sets up over our area, but we should see choppy, waist-high south-west wind waves Christmas Eve ahead of another cold front.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will quickly move through the area tonight. High pressure will then prevail Thursday into Friday. A cold front is forecasted to move through the region early next week, followed by cold high pressure.”
It’s cloudy and foggy this morning with air temps at 61*. Look rain and thunderstorms today and a high of 65*.
Water temperature is now 54*.
Sunset is at 5:16 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:17 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.

It sounds like a broken record, that we see small clean surf for today, and we have weak winds and weather to start the work week. Surf looks to remain small into mid-week, when we could have a quick shot of SMALL pre-frontal south-west wind swell cleaning up Thursday afternoon. A cold front moves through, and high pressure sets up again over the weekend. Flat to very small surf is the rule, no matter how you slice it.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Low pressure will pass north of the region late Wednesday followed quickly by a cold front Wednesday night.
