Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, Oct. 12 at 8:10 a.m.
Carolina Surf Film Festival is set for October 20-21st at the Brickhouse Kitchen here in Charleston. And don’t miss the Carolina Surf Film Festival in Wilmington THIS WEEKEND!
Spring suits and full suits are in and many of them are discounted big time!
Waves at the washout are waist to stomach high with chest high sets and mostly closing out early this morning. It’s been getting a nice little push on the mid-incoming tide over the past few days, and this morning looks like there will be some really fun waves.
Winds are north-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is very clean. We expect winds at 10 knots from the south-east by afternoon, but still not too much wind.
We are coming off a low tide at sun rise, high tide will be at 2:10 p.m. The next low tide will be at 8:33 pm.
Edisto buoy is reading 4.6 ft. at 9 seconds in ESE swell, so there is plenty of swell at the buoy, and we should have some waves all day.
Nice, clean, trade-wind swell surf averages waist to rib high with plus sets until early afternoon today. Might want to get on it mid-morning, as it looks fun. Look for semi-choppy surf to average thigh-to-waist high with a plus set late afternoon with bumpy conditions as the tide goes out. We expect winds to rotate moderate north-easterly Friday and into the weekend. Small easterly trade wind swell should average thigh to waist high (plus) with semi-choppy conditions for your weekend session.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will prevail today. A weakening cold front will move through Friday, followed by high pressure building from the north through the end of the week. A stronger cold front will cross through the region early next week, followed by drier conditions and much cooler temperatures.”
It is 75* and cloudy this morning. Expect a high of 83* and partly cloudy skies. There is a 20% chance for a shower.
Water temperature is around 79*.
Sunset is at 6:55 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:16 a.m.
