Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2017.
We will be open until 2 or 3 p.m. today, depending on how busy we are.
We want to wish everyone a merry Christmas. We will not do a surf report on Christmas day as we have in years past, since it will be very SMALL on Christmas day with strong off-shore winds.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high with a waist high sets in south-west wind swell. Occasionally there is a stomach high set.
Winds are south-west at 10 knots. Surf is semi-choppy and fairly weak, but it’s rideable.
We see winds rotate more westerly this afternoon and we expect side-shore semi-choppy surf.
High tide is at 11:25 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:48 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 4.6 ft. at 5 sec. in short period south/south-west wind swell.
We have south-west wind waves in the water this morning, and it’s rideable on the right gear. It is semi-choppy and weak, with south-west winds. This should fade on the lower tide late this afternoon. We see strong north-west winds for Christmas Day after a cold front passage, and waves stay small through mid-week, then we see easterly ground swell build Thursday into Friday as a stationary front hangs over our marine area. So, there could be some waves late during the holiday work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will cross the area today, followed by high pressure through Tuesday. A stationary front will develop over the area Wednesday and persist into Friday before high pressure rebuilds.”
It is 62* and cloudy this morning. We expect rain showers today and a high of 66*.
Water temperature has gone up a bit with the warm weather. It is 57*.
Sunset is at 5:47 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:52 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
