Good Morning. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Tuesday, August 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are thigh to waist high in stomach (plus) sets in choppy south-west wind waves.
It is pretty choppy and drifty, but it is rideable this morning.
Winds are south/south-west at 15 to 18 knots. We expect south/south-west winds at 10 to 15 this afternoon as well, and surf should be side-shore and choppy later today with surf averaging waist to stomach high with a bigger set late in the day.
The first high tide will be at 8:50 a.m., and low tide will be at 2:50 p.m. The next high tide is at 9:22 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 ft. at 6 seconds in a combination of south wind waves and south-east swell.
Choppy and disorganized waves out there this morning average waist to stomach high and the surf should drop out some late morning with the low tide. Look for surf to pick back up a little with choppy conditions this afternoon as the tide comes in. Surf gets smaller late in the week. There is a tropical disturbance headed our way. It is not forecast to develop much, but its associated tropical wave could bring some swell to our beaches late in the weekend, and into next work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A front will drop into the area today, lingering into Thursday before lifting back north. High pressure will rebuild Friday through early next week. A cold front could approach the area next Monday or Tuesday.”
It is 80* with clouds this morning. Expect rain and thunderstorms today with a high of 85*.
Sunset is at 8:12 p.m. and sunrise will be at 6:37 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
