Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for New Year’s Day: Monday, January 1 at 9 a.m.
We are closed today, and we wish you a happy New Year from your friends at Ocean Surf Shop.
Surf at the Washout this morning is thigh to waist high with a stomach high set. The surf is drifty and semi-clean with a current running down the beach from north to south.
It could possibly push a rib high set as the tide comes in mid-afternoon with similar conditions.
Winds are north at 20 to 25 knots, and this should continue all day.
Low tide is at 1:07 p.m. and high tide will be at 7:10 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 8.5 ft. at 7 seconds in high angled north-east wind swell. Most of the swell is pushing past the beach.
We see surf average thigh to waist high with a plus set this afternoon in drifty, side-shore north-east wind waves and small south-east swell. This trend continues Tuesday, with north-winds, side-shore conditions, and thigh/waist high, drifty, north-east winds swell. We see north winds and north-east swell pretty much all week as high pressure sets up over our marine area, and winds and swell trend north/north-east during the first week of 2018.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Arctic high pressure will continue across the area through the rest of the week with some moderation in temperatures early next week. A storm system may brush the coast Wednesday, possibly bringing some wintry weather to the area.”

We will be closing around 2 p.m. today to celebrate New Year’s, and will be closed on New Year’s Day. We hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year, and we look forward to sharing some waves with you in 2018.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high and the surf is semi=choppy in drifty north-east wind swell.
It could possibly push a waist high set as the tide comes in mid-afternoon.
Winds are north at 15 knots, and surf is side-shore, drifty with clean faces.
Look for north/north-east winds today at 10 to 15, and surf should be on/side-shore and choppy most of the day.
Low tide is at 12:11 p.m. and high tide will be at 6:12 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 5.2 ft. in short period north wind waves and 2.3 ft. at 10 seconds in medium period south-east swell.

Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, December 30 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high and the surf is closing out at the morning’s low tide.

It should push a waist high set as the tide comes in this afternoon.

Winds are north/north-west at 10 knots, and surf is clean.

Look for WNW winds at 10 knots today, Turning WSW this afternoon and then W late in the day.

Low tide is at 11:18 a.m. and high tide will be at 5:21 p.m.

Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 9 sec. in high angled north-east wind.  

We see a thigh to waist high wave on the incoming tide today. Look for overall clean and according to the weather guy, today should warm up a tad, or at least into the 50s. We see cold, high-angled, choppy north-east wind swell for your Sunday. High-angled north swell continues for the first week in January. Central and south Florida is probably your best bet for your New Year if you want to catch a college bowl game and get some surf.

A dry air mass is expected to build across the region today and remain through Saturday. A cold front will move through the area Sunday followed by cold high pressure for much of next week.”

It is 40* with clouds this morning. Look for temperatures to warm this afternoon with a high of 57* and mostly cloudy skies with some sun late day.

Water temperature is back down to 53*.

Edisto buoy is reading 6.6 ft. at 7 sec. in high angled north-east wind swell and easterly swell at 3.3 ft. at 9 sec.
We see a thigh to waist high wave on the incoming tide today. Look for overall clean and very cold conditions. This trend fades overnight as winds become north-west and a low pressure moves north-east – away from our coast – tonight and out of our swell window. Surf looks to be knee to thigh high for your Saturday with clean conditions. We see cold, high-angled, choppy north-east wind swell for your Sunday. High-angled north swell continues for the first week in January. Central and south Florida is probably your best bet for your New Year if you want to catch a college bowl game and get some surf.
