Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, October 8 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at the Washout is waist-to-stomach high. There is a bigger set. It looks fun. It’s a little soft at the higher tide, but worth a check if you have the time this morning.  

Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots, and surf is fairly clean.

Look for moderate north-east winds at 10 knots today, and we see a semi-choppy surf zone this afternoon, with waves averaging waist high for most of your Friday.

High tide is at 9:50 a.m., and low tide will be at 4:05 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:03 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 3.9 feet at 8 seconds in an east/south-east swell.

There is some swell at the buoy, and it’s a decent morning of rideable surf out here at Folly. This trend should continue today surf averaging waist high late week. We have a home-grown low-pressure system in the Atlantic near our marine area through late week and a low moving from the west as well. Look for semi-choppy conditions the storm systems move through our marine area today. We should see rideable, semi-choppy wind-swell begin to fade some Saturday afternoon, dropping off some Sunday and into the work week.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “A complex storm system will bring periods of unsettled weather through Saturday. Weak high pressure will then build into the region and persist through the following week.”

It’s cloudy and 72* this morning. Look for a high of 76* today. We should see mostly cloudy skies and rain showers in the area today.
