Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, Dec. 21 at 8:15 a.m.
Today is the Winter Solstice. It’s the first day of winter, and the shortest day of the year. Just that much closer to long leisurely afternoons in the surf.
Surf at the Washout this morning is knee to thigh high. A bit bigger at the morning’s high tide. Best for the long-board, but it is bigger than it has ben. It should pick up some late this afternoon.
Winds are north/north-west at 10 knots. Surf is side-shore but fairly clean.
We see north-east winds at 10 knots this afternoon and semi-choppy surf later today.
We have a high tide at 9:33 a.m., and a low tide at 3:45 p.m.
Edisto buoy is reading 7.5 at 7 sec. in very short-period, high angled north/north-east wind swell. Most going right past our beaches.
Surf rotates east/north-east this afternoon into the waist high range as we get a quick shot of rotating north-east wind swell. This north-east swell fades out some by Friday afternoon, when surf goes small again for Saturday as high pressure sets up again over our marine area. We see small south/south-west wind swell pick up some on Sunday as another cold front approaches. We could have some small north-east wind waves for Christmas Day before surf gets small again for the holiday work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail into Friday. A cold front is expected to move through the region Sunday night, followed by cold high pressure for most of next week.”
It’s cloudy and drizzling this morning with an air temp of 54*. Look for clouds today and a high of 59*.
Water temperature is now 54*.
Sunset is at 5:16 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:17 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
