Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist to chest.
Traffic: Not too bad.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wed. September 18 at 8:30 a.m.

We have tons of wetsuit tops and jackets for men and women. The temperature is going to drop overnight, and you’ll want to keep surfing this swell. Come on by and pick one up.

Surf at The Washout this morning is waist to chest high range in an high angled easterly ground swell. Surf zone is choppy and very drifty from north to south.

There are side/on-shore winds, with wind blowing 15 to 20 knots from the north/north-east.

Look for north-east winds – more on-shore – this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots, adding some chop and drifty to a continued sizeable ground swell.

We have a high tide at 10:56 a.m., and a low tide will be at 5:13 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 8  ft. at 10 seconds in an east/south-east ground-swell and an easterly wind swell (5.9 ft. at 7 sec.) combination.

Surf at the Washout is running waist high with a chest high set in an east/south-easterly ground swell courtesy of departing Hurricane Humberto. North-east winds after a cold front passage this afternoon will keep surf choppy and drifty. Swell continues to pulse Thursday as Humberto moves well north-east of our coast, then out to sea. We will see strong north/north-east winds Thursday and Friday after a cold front moves through today. Surf fades a bit Saturday, with smaller surf expected Sunday until late day. Tropical Storm Jerry is in the Central Atlantic approaching the Leeward Islands. Jerry should become a hurricane by Friday, and we should begin to see ground swell from Jerry late Sunday into Monday of next week. This swell should be more organized/longer-period swell, but likely won’t be as big as we have seen from Dorian and Humberto, but GOOD swell none-the-less, likely with a little less wind.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for:
“A cold front will advance through the area early today.
High pressure will then build south into the region later today and
continue into early next week.”

It’s 74* at the beach this morning and cloudy. Look for a nice day with a high of 81* and clouds with some sun.

Water temperature is 83*.

Sunrise is at 7:05 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:21 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
