Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 8:30 a.m.
Cold weather swell is coming this weekend, and we have a great selection of booties, hoods and gloves out on the floor, so come get your cold water gear while the selection is still good.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee high with an occ. thigh high wave. Waves are breaking right on the beach at the morning’s high tide.
Winds are south/south-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy. Not looking too good this morning.
Look for winds to switch west at 15 late morning, then north-west after a cold front passage, late. Surf should be beat down later today by the strong off-shore winds.
We just came off a high tide. Low tide will be at 1:31 pm. The next high tide will be at 7:37 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 ft. at 9 seconds in medium period east/south-east swell.
Surf around Folly this morning is knee to thigh high and semi-choppy. If you want to surf with light winds, this might be the last morning to do it for a while. We expect strong north winds mid-week, rotating north-east by Thursday. A strong cold front passage today bringing lots of north/north-east wind swell. This will again pass our shores and head south of our waters, with north-east wind swell starting to wrap in Thursday afternoon. For the weekend, things get interesting as a low-pressure system looks to develop off our coast Saturday and Sunday. We could see ground-swell this weekend with strong north winds keeping bigger, side-shore and drifty. Better have some neoprene, as it will be a cold, raw and rainy swell event this weekend.
There is a gale warning in effect for Folly Beach late this afternoon. It is mostly cloudy this morning with some sun behind the clouds and it’s 66*. Look for rain developing later today with a high of 72*.
Water temperature is slowly dropping, now 68*.
Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:19 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A strong cold front will sweep across the area today, then high pressure returns and prevails through Thursday. A low pressure system should impact the region this weekend before another low pressure system potentially affects the area early next week.”
