Very choppy and drifty. Could clean up on incoming late day.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist-to-stomach. Chest sets.
Traffic: Not bad.
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, December 14 at 8:30 a.m.

Sorry for the late report. We had some computer problems this morning.

Surf at Folly is waist-to-stomach high with a chest set and is very choppy and drifty.

Winds are south/south-west at 25 knots knots, and surf-zone is very choppy and drifty.

Look for wind to switch north-west after a frontal passage this afternoon. This could clean up this choppy, short-period wind swell. The wind switch will depend on the timing of the front this afternoon.

Tide is going out, and Low tide is at 1:27 p.m., and high tide will be at 7:23 p.m.

Virtual buoy data is reading 3 ft at 4 seconds in a choppy south wind swell.

We should have building south-wind swell for the morning, with wind coming off-shore sometime late this afternoon. We see a stronger storm system coming through Wednesday. So, we should expect bigger surf to start the work week next week, with strong winds for the period. Short-period wind swell should start off from the south today, go east/north-east Tuesday, then go south-west again Wednesday, before falling off into Thursday morning. Not much to write home about, but there should be something to ride to end the dismal flat-spell we’ve endured over the past two weeks.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will rapidly move through the region today. High pressure is forecasted to pass to our north on Tuesday while a trough develops along our coast. A storm system will bring impacts to our area Tuesday night into Wednesday. High pressure returns for the later half of the week.

It’s 68* and cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 65* and sun coming out this afternoon.

Water temperature has dropped to 58*.

Sunrise is at 7:13 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:14 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
