Time of Report: 8:00

Good morning, this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, May 12 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is ankle-to-knee high. Looks like a lot of choppy, side-shore, east wind swell, with some slight form still holding on the lines.

Winds are east/north-east at 5-10 knots, and surf zone is choppy and coming in at an angle at the high tide. There isn’t much of a wave out there, unless you just want to get wet and mess around.

Look for winds to pick up from the north-east late day at 10-15 knots. Surf-zone should stay choppy today.

We have a high tide at 9:08 a.m., and low tide will be at 2:59 p.m. The next high tide will be tonight late at 9:22 p.m.

Look for smaller choppier surf this afternoon. Today we see a stalled frontal boundary offshore to our south, and a series of low pressure systems is forecasted to advance along the front. With high pressure to the north, we can expect a pretty big east/north-east blow. This should increase drifty, high-angled east/north-east swell into our beaches Thursday through Saturday. With waves averaging waist high and very drifty for the period. It could be some fun if you’re into choppier ramps.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “A cold front will advance through the area today, then becoming nearly stationary near the northern shore of the Gulf of Mexico tonight. A series of low pressure areas will track along the stationary front until late week. High pressure will expand into the region this weekend into early next week.”

This morning it is overcast and 72*. Look for thunderstorms advancing through the area this afternoon with increasing percent change of rain throughout the day.

Water temperature is up to around 73*.

Sunrise is at 6:22 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:10 p.m.
