Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Monday, June 28 at 8:30 a.m.

All of a sudden, we have a tropical depression just to our east, and it’s moving in our general direction. A low formed yesterday and began some development yesterday afternoon. It should strengthen today as it moves toward the boarder of South Carolina and Georgia.

The surf has picked up some as well. Surf at Folly this morning is waist-to-stomach high range with a chest set.

Winds are north at 15 knots, surf is side-shore and pretty clean, with a drift down the beach north-to-south.

Look for winds to switch to the north-east and increase 10 to 25 knots this afternoon as this tropical low moves into our marine area. We will likely see choppy, drifty surf this afternoon, but with the disturbance comes unpredictable winds.

We have a high tide at 11:37 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:35 p.m.

As the tropical disturbance moves into our marine area this afternoon, we expect increasing winds from the north-east, and waves averaging waist-to-chest high with overall poor form. Surf should drop off but continue tomorrow with better form and some rideable waves still in the forecast. Surf drops off some Wednesday and Thursday before we see a choppy south-west wind swell fill in Friday ahead of another cold front.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “A tropical disturbance over the southwest Atlantic could strengthen to a tropical depression or weak tropical storm before moving onshore near the South Carolina and Georgia border this evening. Otherwise, Atlantic high pressure will prevail with a cold front approaching late week.”

It’s 79* and cloudy at the beach this morning. Look for a high of 81* with clouds and showers in the forecasts as the tropical low moves into our area this evening.

Water temperature is around 82*.

Sunrise is at 6:14 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:31 p.m.
