Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, January 5 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a shipment of Gary Wilson surfboards as well as a batch of Solid Surfboard mid-lengths and logs. There are some new Beater 54” twin fins on the racks as well. Come check them out.
Surf at The Washout this morning is thigh-high with a waist high set. A little bigger at times. It’s soft and breaking pretty close to the ricks, but it looks like fun.
Winds are north-west with rain in the area. This is making for a super clean surf zone. Bring the high-volume board and the full wet-suit kit if you want to get on it.
Look for winds to continue north-west, then west at around 5 to 8 knots, and we see a clean surf zone all day.
We have a high tide at 9:54 a.m., and a low tide at 4 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.6 ft at 13 seconds in an easterly long-period ground swell, a lot of which is headed south of our beaches.
Look for clean, east swell average thigh high today with a bigger set. Nice little long-board session for sure. Surf looks to fall off Thursday. Another cold front approaches Thursday night, and surf picks up in a short period south-west wind wave. This cleans up and drops rapidly on Friday morning after the cold front moves through overnight on Thursday. Small surf prevails on Saturday, and then south wind swell picks up thigh to waist high on Sunday ahead of another cold front passage for Monday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail across the area today. A cold front will impact the area late Thursday into Friday, followed by high pressure. Then, another cold front is expected to move through the area early next week.”
It’s currently 48* with light rain at the beach. Look for some clearing and a high of 65* this afternoon.
Water Temperature is hovering around 59*. That’s going to drop out with the north flow.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:28 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
