Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, January 16 at 8:30 a.m.
Getting out of bed this morning so you don’t have to. Haha.
We will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We are transferring over to a new point of sale system, so sorry about the inconvenience. It’ll be cold and flat anyway, and we appreciate your patience.
Surf at The Washout this morning is chest to head high with a bigger set possible.
Winds are north-east at 20 to 25 knots, and surf-zone is side-shore with plenty of drift down the beach. It is semi-choppy with heavy rain in the area.
Look for winds to rotate east at 25 to 30, then south-east. Wind will eventually increase 30 to 40 from the south-west as a strong low pressure system and an associated cold-front move through our marine aera. Look for choppy drifty, “Victory at Sea” style surf today.
Tide is super high in the rocks this morning. We have a low tide at 1 p.m. We have a high tide at 6:58 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 12.5 ft at 7 seconds in a short period south/south-east wind swell.
Today is a big surf day, and not for the beginners or a surf lesson. It you want some death-bombs with crap conditions, then today is your day, charger. Winds go strong west behind today’s cold front overnight, and this should blow surf side-shore for Monday with poor conditions as the low departs to the north-east of our marine area. Wind stays off-shore and surf stays small through mid-week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A strengthening low pressure system will move northeast through the area today. Cold high pressure will build into the region Monday and Tuesday, moving offshore Wednesday. A reinforcing cold front will move through the area Thursday. A coastal low pressure system could bring wintry precipitation to the area late Thursday night through Friday night.”
It’s raining this morning and it’s 46*. Look for a high around 60* today with heavy rain and wind.
Water Temperature is hovering around 54*. It’s mid-January.
Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:37 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
