Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, February 1 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a shipment of Billabong men’s and women’s wetsuits. We also have a good stock of booties, gloves and hoods. Swell is coming later this week, so come get some while we still have some in stock.
Surf at The Washout this morning is flat.
Winds are north-east at 15 knots, and surf zone is choppy and breaking into the rocks at high tide.
Look for winds to rotate more easterly and pick up 15 to 20 knots this afternoon. We see building, high-angled, choppy easterly swell for this afternoon.
We are coming off a high tide this morning, and low tide will be at 2 p.m. High tide is at 8:03 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4 ft. at 5 seconds in a short-period north-east wind swell.
High pressure builds into our marine area today and Wednesday, and we expect waves to be small today, but pick up some on Wednesday in a small, high angled north-east wind swell. It’s looking like late week is the call for the best surf as a cold front approaches and we see short-period south wind swell picking up chest high with choppy conditions Thursday and Friday. This cleans up for high tide Saturday morning and drops rapidly. After this cold front passage, winds will go strong north-east and this will push up another choppy, high angled north-east wind swell for Sunday into Monday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail into Wednesday before moving offshore. Warmer temperatures will then prevail until a cold front moves through late in the week. Colder high pressure should then return this weekend into early next week, but another storm system could impact the area keeping it unsettled.”
It’s 50* at Folly Beach this morning. It will be sunny with a few passing clouds all day with a high of 57*. Not too bad this afternoon, but a bit windy.
Water Temperature dropped to 48* with this cold snap. That’s about as cold as the waster gets at Folly.
Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:52 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
