Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, February 2 at 8:30 a.m.
Sorry for the late reports. We are changing some computer systems at the shop, so we might have a few late reports for the next several weeks. Thank you for your patience.
We just received a shipment of Billabong men’s and women’s wetsuits. We also have a good stock of booties, gloves and hoods. Swell is coming later this week, so come get some while we still have some in stock.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee-to-thigh high in an easterly wind swell. It’s kind of breaking into the rocks at the morning’s very high tide.
Winds are east/north-east at 15 knots, and surf is choppy.
Look for winds to continue east at 10 to 15 knots today, with a gust to 20 knots.
It’s high tide as of report time, low tide will be at 2:48 pm. The next high tide will be at 8:54 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4 ft. at 7 seconds in a short-period north-east wind swell, much of which is headed past our beaches.
High pressure holds today and we expect small, high angled north-east wind swell to average thigh high with choppy, drifty conditions. It’s looking like late week is the call for the best surf as a cold front approaches and we see short-period south wind swell picking up chest high Thursday into Friday with choppy conditions ahead of a cold front. This cleans up for high tide Saturday morning and drops rapidly as a low pressure forms off-shore and winds become strong north-east, switching the swell direction. This will push up another choppy, high angled north-east wind swell Saturday, Sunday into Monday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail today before moving offshore. A cold front will move through the area late in the week followed by an offshore low pressure system bringing colder and unsettled weather for much of the weekend. Drier but continued chilly weather should then prevail late in the weekend into early next week.”
It’s 52* at Folly Beach this morning. It will be sunny with a few passing clouds all day with a high of 58*. Not too bad this afternoon, but a bit windy.
Water Temperature dropped to 49* with this cold snap.
Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:52 p.m.
