Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, August 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout this morning are knee-to-thigh high and semi-choppy. It’s a bit weak at the higher tide, but is rideable on a longboard.
Winds are south-west at about 5 knots, and surf has a little bump in it.
We expect south-east winds at 5 to 10 knots today, so there should be a moderate chop in the surf zone later today.
We have a high tide at 10:13 a.m. Low tide is at 4:37 p.m., and high tide is well after dark tonight around 11 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 7 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell. There is a little something in the water but the wind has it junked up.
There is some small, rideable surf out here this morning, but it’s nothing to write home about. We should see some south-west wind chop on Wednesday ahead of a cold front. Looks like we should see a tropical storm form in the next two-three days and possibly named Danielle by the weekend. Forecast currently show the storm maintaining tropical depression status until just off the Leeward Islands. Current wind predictions keep it at just under Cat 1 once off the coast of the Carolinas. Models show our area seeing an uptick in swell around midday Monday 9/5 into Wednesday 9/7. There could be some north-east winds on it. This is a slow moving storm so we are keeping fingers crossed.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A trough of low pressure near the coast will move offshore later today, then a cold front will move through Wednesday. A series of disturbances will affect the area Friday through early next week.”
Water Temperature is around 83*.
It’s 78* with rain in the area this morning. Look for some clearing this afternoon with a high of 83*
Sunrise is at 6:53 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:47 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
