Good morning, this is Chad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, Aug 31st at 8:30 a.m.

Waves at The Washout this morning are thigh high with a waist set and glassy. It’s a bit weak, but is rideable on a longboard or something with some volume. May improve with the incoming tide.

Winds are west at about 5 knots, and surf is clean.

We expect west winds at 5 at knots today, then swinging out of the south. May not mess with it too much aside from adding a little texture.

We have a high tide at 11:09 a.m. Low tide is at 5:24 p.m., and high tide is 11:17 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 7 seconds in a medium period east/south-east swell. There is a little something in the water and if winds stay light should be okay.

Some small rideable surf today that is looking like fun on the boards with volume. The rest of the week sees winds picking up out of the east. This could give us a little wind swell into the back of the holiday weekend. Looks like we should see a tropical storm form in the next two-three days and possibly named Danielle by the weekend. Forecast currently show the storm maintaining tropical depression status until just off the Leeward Islands. Current wind predictions keep it at just under Cat 1 once off the coast of the Carolinas. Models show our area seeing an uptick in swell around morning to midday on Tuesday 9/6 into Wednesday 9/7.  This is a shift from seeing possible swell Monday evening. There could be some north-east winds on it, TBD. This is a slow moving storm so we are keeping fingers crossed that it all lines up. Note that low tide is in the 10am-12pm range on these days.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will approach the area today. This front should advance through the region Thursday then will stall south of the area. A series of disturbances will affect the area Friday through early next week.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 81* with blue skies this morning. Look for a high of 85* and mostly clear. Overall a nice day at the beach!

Sunrise is at 6:53 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:47 p.m.
