Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, September 3 at 8:30 a.m. We hope everyone has a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend.

We will be opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday for the holiday. Today, we are opened until  p.m.

Waves at The Washout this morning knee-to-thigh high.

Winds are east at around 10 to 12 knots.  Surf is choppy, and it doesn’t have good form.

Winds stay easterly today, increasing 10 to 15 knots late day. Surf-zone looks to be semi-choppy to choppy this afternoon.

We are coming off a low tide, and high tide will be at 1:51 p.m. The next low tide will be at 8:17 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 10 seconds in a long-period, south-east swell.

There is some rideable surf out here today for the high-volume board, but the easterly wind on it.  As of now, we have tropical storm Earl in the west-central Atlantic, which will pass north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico over the weekend. This should send some ground swell into our beaches this week. Starting small on Labor Day and ramping up mid-week. Winds should be moderate from the east for the remainder of the holiday weekend and into early next week, but there should be some surf to ride starting Tuesday and running through late in the holiday work week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Easterly flow of moisture off of the Atlantic will maintain unsettled weather across the region through the Labor Day weekend. A cold front will slowly press into the region toward the middle and latter half of next week.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 78* today with high clouds. We expect some unstable weather at the beach and clouds mixed with sun. We will likely see some rain on-and-off today.

Sunrise is at 6:55 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:42 p.m.
