Thursday, Sept. 8

Clean and side-shore from the north. A bit of chop for afternoon.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Waist-to-stomach. Chest sets.
Traffic: Yes.
Parking: No.
Dangers: Crowds.

Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, September 8 at 8:30 a.m.

We received a few more 9’0” and 8’0” Catch Surf Logs at the shop this week, and we still have a great selection of the 7’0” boards. Come get them while we still have a few.

Waves at Folly this morning are averaging waist to stomach high with a chest set in an east/south-east ground swell compliments of hurricane Earl.  It is closing out some, but maybe a barrel or two to be had as the tide goes out.

Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots, and surf is side-shore, but fairly clean, and still looks pretty dang fun.

Winds rotate north-east, then easterly this afternoon around 10 knots. We should see some chop  on the ground swell this afternoon.

Tide is going out. Low tide will be at 12:37 p.m. The next high tide will be at 7:13 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.3 feet at 11 seconds in a long-period south-east ground swell, which is likely compliments of Tropical Storm Earl.

We should continue to see swell from Hurricane Earl today with easterly winds that should chop up the surf just a bit this afternoon.  Surf looks to continue into Friday, but as Earl moves farther to the north, swell will get a high north-east angle on it. We do expect north-east winds to increase Friday into Saturday morning, so the nice clean swell will likely get choppy and drifty while still holding some size. Might want to head to Florida or the Outer Banks Saturday afternoon through Monday as the angle of the swell goes more north. There are a few more spots to watch in the Atlantic, so maybe some hope for some more swell latter part of next week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Weak troughing will prevail today ahead of a cold front moving into the area on Wednesday. The front will likely stall to the south into the weekend while high pressure builds in from the north.”

Water Temperature is around 83*.

It’s 72* and cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 81* and some rain moving in for afternoon.

Sunrise is at 6:57 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:39 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
