Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, December 20 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at the Washout this morning are knee-high, but should begin building this afternoon.
Winds are north, north-east – side-shore – at 15 to 20 knots, and surf zone is drifty and semi-clean.
We see north, north-east winds all day today at 15 to 20 and increasing this afternoon with gusts to 25 knots. Surf zone will be drifty and choppy today, building in north-east swell. This trend should continue through Wednesday.
Tide is low today at 11:03 a.m., with high tide to follow at 4:52 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 4 seconds in a short-period, building east/north-east wind swell.
Surf is small this morning, but we look for building north-east wind swell late today through Wednesday with what looks to be semi-choppy, very drifty conditions as a low looks to cross over Florida from the Gulf. This low looks to produce significant ESE swell building into Thursday. Expect top spots to reach the head high range. Winds look to be a little bit of a factor but surf should be fun regardless. Look for a clean up on Friday as winds rotate strong out of the west with cold artic air coming with it. We will also be having some of our largest tidal swings of the winter this coming week so plan accordingly. A very cold high pressure system moves in for your Christmas weekend with strong off-shore winds and small surf, so get it Thursday and Friday if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A series of low pressure systems will bring unsettled weather to the region through early Friday. Arctic high pressure and a very cold airmass will build in Friday through early next week.”
It’s a chilly and wet 50* this morning with clouds and rain-showers in the area. Look for the temperatures to stay about the same today with rain in the forecast.
Water temperature is now 59*. Brrrr.
Sunrise is at 7:18 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:18 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
