Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, January 12 at 8:30 a.m.
Just a reminder, A Taste of Folly will take place on Folly Saturday. Center Street will be shut down, so plan accordingly if you are coming to surf or just coming to party.
Waves at the Washout this morning are knee high.
Winds are south-west at 10 to 12 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy.
We see winds pick up significantly this afternoon at 15 to 20 knots, and surf gets choppy later today as south-west wind swell begins to build ahead of an approaching cold front.
High tide will be at 10:50 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:07 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 4 seconds in a building, short-period, south-west wind swell.
We have a strong cold front approaching today clocking our winds around to the south/south-west, and we see building surf late day and overnight into Friday morning. Winds are forecast to go west on Friday morning. With an incoming tide Friday morning, and side/offshore winds, we might see a decent session Friday morning before swell gets blown down later Friday. Unfortunately, high pressure sets up again Friday night, and waves will be small and cold for your weekend and into early next week.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will move through the region tonight into Friday morning. High pressure will then return this weekend and persist into early next week. A weak front could cross through the area towards the middle of next week.”
It’s a sunny and nice at the beach. It is 61*. Look for a decent beach day with clouds moving in for afternoon and a high of 66*.
Water temperature, it’s 55*.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:33 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
