Semi-choppy

Wave Forecast: Thigh-to-waist. Maybe slightly bigger.
Traffic: None
Parking: Plenty.
Dangers: None

Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, January 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at Folly Beach this morning is thigh-to-waist high, with an occasional larger set. Wave formation is lacking, as rides are caught with little shoulder to play with. It has potential to offer more with the late afternoon high, but the wind direction and strength is compromising rideability.

Winds are west at 8 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy and weak. Gusts are approaching 20 knots, likely to maintain this strength throughout the day.

We see westerly winds continue throughout the day at 5-10 knots with high gusts in the 20-knot range.

Low tide this morning will be at 12:39 p.m. Look for todays high tide to follow at 6:37 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 7.1 seconds in a medium-period south wind swell.

South swell unfortunately didn’t clean up as much as we would’ve liked this morning, with plenty of texture and chop on the wave face. The incoming low tide will likely diminish any potential wave. Surf looks smaller for Saturday, but pre-frontal south wind-swell should begin to kick up again Sunday, and we should see the work week start with another south wind swell clean up early Monday. Surf will drop off Tuesday and into the middle of next week with high pressure setting up for mid-week.

Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail through early Saturday. A low pressure system will then produce significant rainfall across the area from Saturday night until another cold front crosses the area late Sunday night. Another low pressure system will impact the area Tuesday into Wednesday.”

It’s 56* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 69* and plenty of sun throughout the day.

Water temperature, it’s 55*.

Sunrise is at 7:21 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:41 p.m.
