Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, May 23 at 8:30  a.m.

We still have plenty of spring-suits in stock, and you can use one today.

Surf at The Washout this morning is drifty down the beach, but there is a wave to ride, especially for the high-volume boards. It’s around thigh to waist high in a drifty, high-angled north-east wind swell.

Winds are north/north-east – side-shore – at 15 to 18 knots, and waves are weak and semi-clean.

Look for increasing north-east winds this afternoon at 20 to 25 knots, and this wind pattern will be the call through Friday as low pressure sits to our south, and high pressure just to the north of our marine aera. This should build some drifty swell for your work week.

We had a high tide around 11:17 a.m., and low tide is at 5:03 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.9 feet at 5 seconds in short-period ENE swell. Most of the swell is headed south, and will be all week, but there is something to ride if you don’t mind drifting some.

A high pressure will sit just north and low pressure to our east. This brings strong north-east winds which will likely give us some drifty NE wind-swell through Thursday as we see a weak low pressure system developing now through mid-week just east of the Bahamas. Late week models are showing a more significant low-pressure system to develop over central Florida and eventually push off their coastline and could generate another ESE swell mixed with strong north/north-east winds. If you remember Bertha a few years back, this is a very similar set-up and Bertha was in late May as well. There is plenty of uncertainty, but there will be waves of some sort all week. Hopefully the quality will be good later this week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will build from the north through Thursday. A coastal low pressure system could affect southern South Carolina Friday into Saturday.”

Its 68* and mostly cloudy this morning.  Look for clouds today with a high of 74* and wind.

Water temperature is 75*.

Sunrise is at 6:16 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:17 p.m.
