Semi-choppy to choppy

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Knee.
Traffic: Not bad.
Parking: Parking.
Dangers: Thunderstorms.

Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report for Tuesday, June 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Tomorrow is the first day of summer, and we have an early season tropical storm out there. Tropical Storm Brett.

Looks like it might ride a little south below the Caribbean Island chain, but don’t be surprised to see a little ground-swell headed our way sometime late weekend into early next week.

Surf at Folly is flat this morning, however.

Winds are South around 10 knots, and surf is semi-choppy at the higher tide this morning. Bring the longboard if you want to get wet.

We have a high tide at 10:07 a.m . Low will drop out at 3:55 p.m. High tide will move back in at 10:21 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.3 feet at 8 seconds in a medium period easterly swell, with a small south-west wind swell running 2 feet at 4 seconds. Not much swell at the buoy, and it’s showing at the beach.

Mid-to late week, we see south/south-west wind swell pick up as a stationary front lingers over our area, bringing some rain and increased southerly winds. As Tropical Storm Brett starts to move west/south-west, the northerly wind field of the storm should push a little ground swell our way late in the weekend into early next week. There is another low behind Brett that could keep the early summer swell train running, so lets keep our fingers crossed for that.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “Low pressure will develop across the region and then prevail into late week.

Water temperature is around 80*

Its 75* with rain at the beach. Look for a high of 80* today and rain in the forecast on-and-off.

Sunrise is at 6:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
