Good morning this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, July 15 at 8:30 a.m.
Coming to you from the Washout, waves are knee-to-thigh high. There is a waist high set, and it looks kind of fun for the high volume board.
Winds are south-west at 10 to 15 knots, and surf zone has a little side shore chop on it and a slight drift up the beach.
Winds will increase out of the south-west today, adding side-shore chop/drift to the surf zone as a small south-west, short-period wind swell begins to increase late afternoon as the tide comes in.
Low tide will be at 12:40 p.m., and high tide will be at 7:14 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period east/south-east wind swell, with a short-period south-west wind swell 2 feet at 4 seconds. Look for the short period south-west wind swell to increase this afternoon.
Coming off the low tide may be a little something to surf eastly afternoon, but the wind is likely to get on it. There is a chance for small, choppy south-west wind swell to begin to build up this afternoon into Sunday, but it’ll be kind of typical summer wind swell with side-shore conditions. We have a new development in Subtropical Storm Don. It’s pretty far out there in the middle of the ocean and will be hanging out for a while as it loops around. We could see a small, home-grown low-pressure system develop off the south-eastern coast MAYBE next week, with moderate to strong south-west winds still prevailing. This could push up a little choppy swell for next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A surface trough will persist inland this weekend, while High pressure prevails in the Atlantic through next week.”
Water temperature is around 85*
It’s hotter than two rats making love in a wool sock. It’s 84* with clouds this morning. It is very humid. Expect sunny and hot weather all day with a high of 88*.
Sunrise is at 6:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:28 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
