Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop report and forecast for Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m.
It’s raining hard at the beach this morning, and that’s keeping the surf crowd and traffic way down. The island’s roads are very flooded. I only got four pictures because I could only get so wet. Haha.
Surf at the Washout is waist-to-stomach high with chest high sets. It should build as the wind begins to pick up later today, but look for more chop.
Winds are south at 15 to 20 knots, and surf is bumpy and lumpy, but the heavy rain gives it a clearer look.
Look for winds to increase south-west at 20 knots as we see a frontal boundary approach for tonight, and this wet and rainy storm system will move out of our marine area. We see a choppy, drifty surf zone this afternoon.
We just came off a high tide, and Low tide is at 12:56 p.m. High tide is at 7:02 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 6 feet at 6 seconds in a dominantly short-period south-east wind swell
We have choppy south wind swell in the water today with stormy conditions. This will rotate more south-west this afternoon with high winds in the forecast all day. Hoping Sunday morning we have some leftovers before the swell completely fades out. So check it Sunday to see what’s up early at the high tide. High pressure then returns over our marine area early week and the surf will then be on the downside to start our work week.
The water temp is around 60*. Its starting to warm up!
The NOAA Marine Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A storm system will bring impacts to the region through tonight. High pressure returns early next week, bringing dry conditions for most of the week.
It’s 66* with thunder and heavy rain. Look for similar conditions today, with rain possible to fade some later this afternoon.
Sunrise is 6:36 a.m., Sunset 6:23 p.m.
That’s all from us at Ocean Surf Shop. We’ll check back tomorrow.
