Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 22 at 7:30 a.m.
New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.
Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-to-thigh high maybe a plus set here and there. Its clean early and should improve with the morning tide push.
Winds are light and the ocean is a sheet of glass early.
Look for winds to shift west south/west 10mph and overall shouldn’t hurt to bad today.
We have a high tide at 11:18 a.m., and a low tide will be at 5:18 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 9 seconds in a medium-period, south-easterly swell.
There is a small wave out here this morning for the longboard/high volume glide. We do have high pressure to our east, and this should push in some small thigh high trade-swell through the weekend. Looking ahead we have Tropical storm Laura in the eastern Atlantic born yesterday. Shes churning in the eastern Caribbean and as a result expect stronger SE swell to arrive Monday into mid-week. Swell should peak on Tuesday in the waist to shoulder high range. This swell fades Weds although surf should remain rideable the remainder of the work week as trade swell should keep a small wave for us. Either way were surfing the next several days!
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will build towards the region early next week, which should keep tropical cyclones away from the area.”
It’s 74* with clouds and sunshine. Look for a high of 85 with a 40% chance of rain this afternoon.
Water temperature is 86*.
Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:56 p.m.
