Building choppy SSW wind-swell

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: knee-thigh
Traffic: Kinda busy.
Parking: limited due to new restrictions and weekend
Dangers: None

Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Saturday, August 29 at 8:30 a.m.

New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.

Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.

Surf at Folly this morning is knee-thigh high. Building SSW wind-swell.

Winds are from the south-west at 10 knots, and surf-zone is side-shore, weak and semi-choppy.

Look for winds to stay south-west today at  15 knots, and surf should chop up some later this afternoon and help build it a bit.

We have a low tide at 11:33 a.m., and a high tide will be at 6:16 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 ft. at 5 seconds in a small south-west wind-swell.

Surf Is showing knee-thigh high sets to start the weekend. Look for surf to build slightly through Saturday ahead of a cold-front in weak SW wind-swell. Surf falls off for Sunday and into the next work week. We could see some residual swell from a tropical wave during the middle of next week, but it’s a long way out. Two tropical spots to watch in the Central/Western Atlantic for late next week. We’ll keep an eye on those.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A cold front will approach from the north today into tonight, then stall over the region Sunday before dissipating. Weak high pressure will then prevail for much of next week. A cold front could approach the region next weekend.”

It’s 82* and mostly sunny. Look for a high of 91 with a 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

Water temperature is 86*.

Sunrise is at 6:52 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:48 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
