Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, September 1 at 8:30 a.m.
We’ll be having a Labor Day sale with 25% off of all summer apparel and footwear. Come check it out today through Monday.
Surf at The Washout this morning is stomach to chest high with head high sets. There are sets closing out that are overhead. It’s breaking closer to the beach at the high tide this morning, and there are about 1000 of your best friends already surfing here at the beach.
Winds are north/north-east at 10 to 15 knots, surf has drift down the beach, and is semi-choppy.
Look for north-east winds at 10 to 15 knots, and surf zone gets choppy and stays drifty today.
We have a high tide at 10:07 a.m., and a low tide at 4:10 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:26 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 5.2 ft. at 12 seconds in an big south-easterly ground swell.
Big ground-swell is here from Hurricane Dorian as it makes a northerly turn near the Bahamas and moves in our general direction over the next several days. Look for the hurricane pushing swell into our beaches and building significantly today into Monday. With high pressure anchored to our north/east, and Dorian to our south, we will wind increasing from the north/north-east at 20 to 25 knots during this swell event, making for big, unruly surf conditions. The models have shifted Dorian more offshore of Florida and more towards the South Carolina Lowcountry. Either way middle of next week looks to have solid surf although tropical storm force winds will likely make for un-surfable conditions mid-week, with a quick clean-up late on Thursday. We will keep you posted, and stay safe.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A front draped across the area will gradually dissipate by Monday or Tuesday. Hurricane Dorian should approach the area during the middle of next week. Refer to the latest advisory on Dorian issued by the National Hurricane Center.”
It’s a 78* at the beach this morning with clouds and showers. Look for a high of 84* and thunderstorms and showers on-and-off today.
Water temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:52 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:46 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
