Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 24 at 8:30 a.m.
We hope everyone is enjoying a healthy and happy holiday season. We close at 1 p.m. today, Christmas Eve. We will be closed Christmas Day. We will open for regular business hours from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday. There will be no surf report on Christmas Day. Sorry about that.
Surf at The Washout this morning is knee high. There is a rare bigger set. It’s rideable on the log, and is very clean, early.
Winds are north-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is perfectly clean and glassy.
Look for variable winds at around 5 to 8 knots this morning, going south-west at 10 knots this afternoon. This should add some texture and bump to small waves.
High tide is at 10:47 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:12 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period easterly swell.
High pressure sets up over our marine area for the end of the week. Surf is small this Christmas Eve, but log-able this morning. We Should see building, short-period, drifty, choppy south-west wind waves through Saturday with increasing south-west winds. This wind swell could quickly clean up Sunday morning. This wind swell rapidly drops off after the high tide, which occurs around noon on Sunday. Either way, Sunday morning might be the best bet to try and catch some cleaner surf, but it won’t last long. Surf looks small to start the next work week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will move into the area late this weekend before lifting north as a warm front early next week. Another cold front could impact the region late next week.”
It’s chilly and sunny at the beach. It’s 45*. Look for a nice beach day with relatively little wind and a high of 62*.
Water Temperature is hovering around 56*.
Sunrise is at 7:19 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:19 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
