Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Christmas Eve 2024

We will close at 2 p.m. today, so come on by and get your last minute Christmas shopping done for the surfer on your list.

Santa brought waves for Christmas Eve at the low tide Washout.

Surf at Folly is running waist to chest high with a bigger set and winds are north/north-west at 10 knots. If you can brave the cold, it’s the day to be out here and should improve as the tide comes in.

Wind should increase from the north at 10 to 15 knots, and this will keep surf side-shore and clean today.

Tide is low as of report time. We have a high tide at 2:33 p.m., will have a low tide at 8:44 p.m.

Bouy is reading 4.3 feet at 9 seconds in a medium period south east swell, with a shorter wind swell reading 8 feet at 7 seconds from the east. Lots of swell at the buoy, and we will have waves all day with the mid-afternoon low tide.

We have a low-pressure system moving north of of our swell window today, and this will push up fun, cold waves this morning. This fades some Christmas day, but there should be some surf in your stocking Wednesday. Late week, we see short period north/north-east wind swell of varying quality in the water.. This should rotate late in the weekend to a more on-shore, southerly flow, and expect surf to pick up early next week for the New Year’s eve party.

Your NOAA Marine Weather forecast for our waters calls for: “An area of low pressure will track northeast off the Carolina coast today. High pressure will settle over the area on Christmas Day. A cold front will approach the region this weekend.”

The water temperature is around 54*.

It’s 43* with clouds and the wind-chill is 38*, so bundle up. 4/3 recommended.

Sunrise was at 7:15 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:17 p.m.

Thanks for tuning in for the Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast.
