Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Sunday, Dec. 22 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly this morning is waist-chest high with a shoulder high peak. It should build throughout today. Looks fun at report time.
Winds are north/north-east at 10 knots, and surf zone isn’t to bad at report time some slight texture and drift from the NE.
Look for winds to remain north-east today picking up into the 15-20mph range later.
We have a low tide at 10:30 a.m and high tide will follow at 4:41 pm.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 7.5ft. at 6 seconds in a short period ENE wind-swell.
Surf this Sunday morning looks fun chest high sets maybe even some bigger. Wind isn’t to bad on it either. This swell is curtesy of our approaching gulf low. Look for swell to build throughout Sunday into Monday as this low looks to park itself over the low-country area the next two days. Winds will be a slight factor as they remain onshore from the NE but some fun surf could still be found. Mid-week xmas eve we will see the low depart from our marine area and surf should begin to clean up tues-weds. Looking well ahead to late work week high pressure pushes offshore and could see a smaller trade swell. Either way tons of surf this entire week just keep your eyes on the flags.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Strong low pressure originating in the Gulf of Mexico will slowly pass off the coast on Monday, bringing numerous impacts to the area. Expect periods of heavy rain, windy conditions near the coast, elevated tides and hazardous marine conditions. The weather will improve Tuesday as the low moves far offshore. High pressure will then build into the region mid to late this week, bringing dry conditions and above normal temperatures.”
It is a cold 50* with clouds and showers. Look for rain to become more steady later and a high of only 58*.
Water temperature is now 56*
Sunrise is at 7:15 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:15 p.m. Tomorrow is the winter solstice, and it’s the shortest day of the year.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
