Semi-clean and weak. Choppy later today.

Time of Report: 8:30 a.m.
Wave Forecast: Ankle-to-knee.
Traffic: Lots.
Parking: None.
Dangers: Spring break fever

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, April 9 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning has actually picked up a bit. It’s ankle to knee high. Haha.

Winds are south-west at 5 to 8 knots, and surf zone is semi-clean and small. Waves are weak.

Look for winds to rotate more southerly this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots. Increasing to 20 knots late day. Small surf gets pretty choppy this afternoon.

Tide is going out. We have a low tide at 1 p.m., and a high tide will be at 7:16 p.m.

Virtual buoy readings are showing 1.7 ft. at 4 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell.

Waves are looking small today. Look for drifty, choppy south/south-west wind swell to increase on the incoming tide Saturday as a cold front approaches and brings increasing on-shore flow ahead of the front. Wind swell and unsettled weather builds on Sunday in more choppy south/south-west wind swell.  So there should be some wind swell to ride this weekend, just not ideal conditions. Winds go west to start the work week as high pressure sets up again, and surf should drop off Monday.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather forecast calls for: “High pressure will retreat offshore today, while a weak cold front stalls to our far west late tonight. The front will then advance across the region Sunday, followed by the return of high pressure early next week.”

It is nice out this morning. Lots of sunshine and 66*. Look for a high of 71* with increasing cloudiness this afternoon.

Water temperature is around 64*. It should be going up this week.

Sunrise is at 6:55 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:45 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
