Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m.
New parking restrictions in place on Folly Beach. Please see the City’s Web site for more information.
Mandatory mask ordinance is in effect for Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is knee-high. Not much out here at the morning’s low tide.
Winds are from the south-west at 10 knots, and surf-zone is side-shore, weak and semi-choppy.
Look for winds to stay rotate south-west today at 10 to 15 knots, and surf should chop up some later this afternoon.
We have a low tide at 10:30 a.m., and a high tide will be at 5:14 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 1.6 ft. at 8 seconds in a small south-easterly swell, with a short-period, south-west wind swell 2 ft. at 4 seconds.
Not too much surf today, but it should build tomorrow. We expect a choppy south-west wind swell arriving on Saturday ahead of a cold front. Surf falls off for Sunday and into the next work week. We could see some residual swell from a tropical wave during the middle of next week, but it’s a long way out. Two tropical spots to watch in the Central/Western Atlantic for late next week. We’ll keep an eye on those.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will persist through Friday, before a cold front stalls over the area late this weekend. Weak high pressure should then return early next week and persist into the middle of next week.”
It’s 82* and mostly cloudy. Look for a high of 86 with a 30% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Water temperature is 86*.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
