Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 12 at 8:30 a.m.
New Gary Wilson boards are in the shop, including a good many longboards. Get them while we still have some in stock. Wave season is coming.
The Governor’s Cup of surfing takes place at the Washout this weekend. This is pretty much the state championship, so come check it out.
Waves at Folly this morning are knee-to-thigh high.
Winds are west/north-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is semi-choppy and side shore.
Look for westerly winds this morning to rotate southwest at 15 to 20 this afternoon. Surf will overall be choppy today, but could clean up in frequent rain showers and thunderstorms.
We see choppier surf this afternoon as south/south-west wind swell continues ahead of an approaching cold front.
We have a high tide as of report time. Low tide is at 2:41 p.m., and high tide is at 9:16 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading a very small 3 feet at 5 seconds in a short-period south/south-west wind wave.
Look for increasing south-west winds chopping things up this afternoon. Not as much surf today. South-west wind swell picks up late week as a cold front approaches with strong south-west winds overnight. Friday could clean up some as the front lingers in our marine area. Saturday and Sunday we see swell begin to rotate expecting some north-east/east winds. Will likely be pretty small and choppy this weekend. Our little tropical system in the mid-Atlantic fizzled out after hitting some dry air and high pressure. Not much surf in the forecast for the next week or so.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will approach today, then push offshore early Saturday. High pressure will briefly return early next week. Another front could impact the region towards the middle of the week.”
It’s 77* with clouds this morning. Look for a high of 81* with storms on-and-off all day.
Water Temperature is around 85*.
Sunrise is at 6:41 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:06 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
