Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 18th at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly about waist-belly high with light side/offshore winds its pretty fun, but just be prepared to surf with everyone in the 843 and beyond its PACKED.
Winds are west around 5 knots, and the surf zone is clean.
Look for west south-west winds to pick up today 10-15mph overall shouldn’t hurt it to much.
The tide is high at 10:00 a.m. We will see a low tide at 4:00 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.6 ft at 6 seconds in short period south south-west wind swell.
Surf is fun this morning thigh-waist high with some plus sets here and there but as mentioned its packed. Now, looking ahead our current SSW wind-swell now should slowly fade into tomorrow. We have lots of moisture leaving the western Caribbean Sunday that could generate some onshore flow before heading into the gulf. So Sunday evening into Monday morning could have a pulse nothing crazy but rideable. Mid-week we see several Lows/invest in the Atlantic. 1st produced in the southern Caribbean that eventually pushes north over Puerto Rico just east of the Bahamas Tuesday and looks to strengthen and become somewhat stationary. This is great for us as its right in our swell window we should see our 1st pulses late Tuesday building significantly into Weds and as mentioned current models don’t have this system moving for a few days so we should have solid surf for a while. 2nd invest 99l Also bouncing back and fourth in strength just east of Bermuda this will add more easterly swell to the mix later in the work week. There is also another Low being monitored but at this point I feel like Im writing a thesis. PLENTY OF SWELL ON THE WAY.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A cold front will linger across the area through Thursday, then move offshore as high pressure builds in from the west. A trough of low pressure could move in from the Atlantic Saturday night or Sunday.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 76* this morning. Look for a high of 89* with plenty of sunshine today.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
