Wave Forecast: Waist-to-stomach. Chest sets.

Dangers: Crowds.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 20 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at the Washout this waist-to-stomach high with a chest set in a fresh easterly ground swell compliments of Hurricane Henri. There about 5000 of your best friends already on it.

Winds are north/north-west at around 5 knots, and surf zone is very clean.  It looks fun, but inconsistent considering the crowd. There are some fun waves, and it should get better as the tide comes in mid-afternoon.

Look for winds to continue west/north-west today, coming south-west late afternoon. Surf should be fairly clean today.

Tide is going out. We have a low tide at 12:33 p.m., and a high tide at 7:18 p.m.

The Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 9 seconds in a long period easterly ground swell.

Look for ground-swell to build this afternoon as the tide comes in compliments of Tropical storm Henri. It should stay fairly clean today with winds trending moderate off-shore until later this afternoon. The storm should enhance our ground swell today into Saturday. Surf falls off on Sunday. Then, we see local south-west wind swell early next week as a trough develops inland, and high pressure stays to our east.

Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “The region will remain positioned between an inland trough and Atlantic high pressure into mid next week.”

It’s 80* this morning and there’s lots of sunshine. Look for a hot, humid day with a high of 88* and mostly sun.

Water temperature is around 85*.

Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:59 p.m.
