Good morning, this is Luke with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday August 25 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at Folly about thigh-waist high and is pretty clean this morning. Just drained up with the low tide this morning. Look for slight improvements as the tide fills in mid-morning.
Winds are south at 5 knots just adding a little texture to the surface, at that should persist through the day picking up 5-10mph.
The just came off a low tide at report time, tide then fills in at 2:09 p.m. with another low tide after sunset at 8:50 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.3 ft at 9 seconds in medium period east swell.
We have some high angled easterly swell still in the water. Currently Thigh-waist high. We should see small groundswell arriving Saturday, as there are a lot of tropical spots to watch in the Atlantic Basin right now. But it’s really Tropical Storm Franklin, which is currently in the SE Caribbean, that is predicted to become a hurricane this weekend in our swell window. Franklin looks to push northward over the weekend, and should push up solid, long-period ground swell filling in late in the weekend into Monday and Tuesday of next week. Franklin is going to light up the whole East Coast. It’s going to be crowded, so get ready. Also models now hinting at a strong low to develop in the southern Gulf and cross over Florida into our marine area on Weds/Thursday of next week. We will keep you updated as that system is long-range and most likely models will shift in guidance a bit. Overall plenty of surf on tap.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure rebuilds for the latter half of the week, with another front possible early next week.”
Water temperature is around 85*.
It’s already 82* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 86* with sun mixed with clouds.
Sunrise is at 6:44 a.m., and sunset will be at 8:02 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
