Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 30 at 8:30 a.m. We’ll be having a Labor Day sale with 25% off of all summer apparel and footwear. Come check it out today through Monday. Surf at the Washout is in the knee-high range and textured/semi-clean in a north wind swell. Winds are north at 15 knots, and current is drifting down the beach. Look for north-east winds at 10 to 15 knots with gusts to 2o all day, and surf zone gets choppy and stays drifty today. We just had a high tide, and low tide will be at 2:21 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:43 p.m. The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft. 5 seconds in an east/north-east wind swell, most of which is passing by our beaches. We see continued north-east wind swell today as winds continue north-east through Saturday. All eyes are on Hurricane Dorian as it moves west/north-west toward the Central East Coast of Florida, pushing swell into our beaches starting very late day Saturday and building significantly Sunday into Monday. With high pressure anchored to our north/east, and Dorian to our south, we will see some wind during the swell event, with winds trending east/north-east at 15 knots by Sunday, making for big, unruly surf conditions. We have tropical storm conditions possible into the middle of next week as the storm moves north. As Dorian tracks moves into our marine area, look for on-shore winds to follow the storm’s track, keeping large south-easterly wind swell in the forecast through Thursday of next week. Keep an eye on this storm, looks to be a big one, and could effect our marine area next week. Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “A coastal trough will shift closer to the coast into the weekend while high pressure remains to the north. Tropical Cyclone Dorian is likely to impact the area mid to late next week. Refer to the latest advisory on Dorian issued by the National Hurricane Center.” It’s a beautiful 77* at the beach this morning with low humidity. Look for a high of 87* but not too humid today with bright sunshine. Water temperature is around 85*. Sunrise is at 6:52 a.m. and sunset will be at 7:46 p.m. Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
