Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, August 6 at 8:30 a.m.
Surf at the Washout this morning is thigh-to-waist high. Jump on the wave before the tide drains out too much. Looks like a lot of fun with a little bit of a bigger board this morning.
Winds are south/south-east. Surf is bumpy but there are some lines to be had.
Look for to stay south at 10 knots this morning, increasing 10 to 15 from the south-east this afternoon. Winds could be variable in rain and thunderstorms today.
We are coming off a high tide at sunrise. We have a low tide at 12:47 p.m., and a high tide at 7:41 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.6 ft at 7 seconds in a medium period south-east ground swell mixed with a short -period wind swell from the south.
This morning looks ok with not a lot of surfers in the lineup. It looks like the bigger boards will do better. This afternoon has potential with the incoming high tide if you don’t mind some chop but your best bet is right now before it gets drained out and windy. There could be some small, south-swell leftovers for Saturday for the high-volume board. Surf should fall off some late in the weekend as high pressure begins to move into our marine aera and we see less swell off-shore. There are a few tropical systems forming in the Central and Western Atlantic that could for into something more significant 10 to 12 days out. We’ll keep an eye on it.
Your National Weather Service Marine Weather Forecast for our area calls for: “A stalled front near the area will shift north today. High pressure will then build into the area over the area late weekend and prevail next week.”
We have clouds this morning and a light drizzle. It’s currently 78*. Look for possible light rain with a high of 87* this afternoon.
Water temperature is around 83*.
Sunrise is at 6:37 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:12 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
