Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, Dec. 13 at 8:00 a.m.
The Folly Beach Christmas parade is on Saturday, and the road to the island will be closed at noon until around 2 p.m. for the parade. So come get some Christmas spirit tomorrow here at Folly.
Surf at Folly this morning is averaging waist-to-stomach high with a chest (plus) set in an east/north-east swell.
Winds are north at 10 to 12 knots, and surf is side-shore with some drifty and semi-clean.
Look for north-east winds at 10 to 15 knots today rotating south-east at 10 to 15 knots this afternoon. This will add bump and chop to building surf.
We have a high tide at report time, low tide will be at 2:36 p.m. The next high tide will be at 8:35 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 ft. at 8 seconds in an east swell with an east/north-east wind swell 5 ft. at 5 seconds.
We see waist to chest surf build some this afternoon and become choppy this afternoon as winds come on-shore from the south-east as a low passes over our marine area. Winds blow strong south-west over-night, then westerly for Saturday, blowing at 15 to 20, cleaning up and eventually blowing down the surf through the day Saturday. Surf should fade some on Sunday before we see more south wind swell ahead of a cold front on Tuesday.
It is 50* with cloudy skies and showers this morning. Look for a high of 63* today with rain all day.
Water temperature is now 57*
Sunrise is at 7:13 a.m. and sunset will be at 5:14 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “An area of low pressure will track across the area today and tonight. High pressure will then build over the region Saturday and persist into early next week. A cold front will shift across the area Tuesday, followed by high pressure into late next week.”
