Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 17 at 8:30 a.m.
We just received a new shipment of Carver surf-skate boards at the shop just in time for Christmas. We also received more Catch Surf 8’0” and 54” Twins. Come check them out.
Surf at The Washout this morning waist-to-stomach high. There is a slightly bigger set. We still have some long-period ground swell in the water, and it still looks fun out here at Folly.
Winds are west/south-west at 5 knots, and surf zone is clean.
Look for south winds at 5 to 8 this afternoon. The wind shouldn’t pick up too much today. Which is good news for the surf conditions. Look for some bump in the ground swell as the tide comes in late day.
Tide just started going out. Low tide will be at 12:45 p.m., and high tide will be at 6:44 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 4.3 ft at 8 seconds in a medium period south-east swell, so there is plenty of swell at the buoy with a good direction. We have another good day of surf in store.
Looks like some fun surf today if you can get on it, and it’s warm out here at the beach for December. We have enjoying some on-shore flow with light local winds, bringing some small trade-wind ground swell to Folly today and into Saturday. A cold front approaches our marine area for Saturday night and brings winds south-west Saturday as trade wind swell continues. We see a quick clean up Sunday as winds come strong off-shore by Sunday afternoon. North-east winds and high-angled swell increase to start the Christmas workweek ahead of a low pressure forming along the south-east coast Tuesday. Should be some sort of waves for the next five days or so starting today. Get some while you can, as surf will drop off during the middle part of next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will prevail into Saturday morning. A cold front will bring some impacts to the region on Sunday, followed by brief high pressure on Monday. A coastal low is expected to brush the area on Tuesday. High pressure returns again mid to late next week.”
It’s 63* with light fog and clouds in the area. Look for warm weather to go with your surf session. It’ll be 70* today with mostly cloudy skies.
Water Temperature is hovering around 59*.
Sunrise is at 7:15 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:16 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
