Wave Forecast: Chest high

Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 23 at 8:30 a.m.

We will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be closed on Christmas Day. We will resume normal winter hours – from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – on December 26.

We also just got a new shipment of Carver Skateboard just in time for Santa.

Waves at the Washout this morning are chest high and semi-choppy with high winds and gusts. Surf is drifting quickly North to South and there’s very few people sitting out in the lineup.

Winds are west/south-west, and surf zone is semi-choppy early. We look for west winds this afternoon at 15-20 knots. Surf is expected to maintain some size and form, but it’ll maintain a textured surface and predictability of sets will be inconsistent.

Tide just started going out. Low tide today is at 12:56 a.m., with high tide to follow at 7:32 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 2 feet at 10 seconds in a south/south-east swell. A very moderate wind swell of 8.9 feet at 6.7 seconds is coming in from the west/south-west direction.

As expected, the westerly winds hold some strength this morning disrupting a lot of the form and glass seen yesterday morning. A rapidly intensifying inland low pressure will track north today, replaced by a strong Artic cold front today into tonight. The weekend looks very cold and very flat, with strong westerly winds predicted through early next week. Keep yourself warm in front of the cold weather to come.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “Arctic high pressure will build across the region today and will remain the dominant feature through next week.”

It’s a chilly 52* this morning with some clouds. The sun will likely peek through sporadically, as the high today is only 52*.

Water temperature is now 56*, and will go down after this weekend’s cold snap. Brrrr

Sunrise is at 7:20 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:19 p.m.

Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
