Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 2 at 8:00 a.m.
Waves at the Washout today are ankle-to-knee high in a building, fresh north-east wind swell.
We see north-east winds at 5 to 10 knots today, increasing to 10 to 15 later today. Expect to see a semi-choppy surf zone once that wind picks up in the afternoon.
We are coming off an early morning low tide at 9:02 a.m., and high tide will be at 3:26 p.m. The next low tide will be at 9:28 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 3.6 feet at 5.9 seconds in a building short period east/north-east wind swell, most of which is going to be passing to our south.
As expected, winds are lighter from the north-east today, with a high pressure building over the east. For the weekend, swell rotates more on-shore as small east/south-east swell moves more into our swell-window Saturday into Sunday when a front stalls near our marine area. Likely nothing too big, but perhaps something fun to ride Saturday and through Monday with more moderate winds in the forecast. So, weekend warriors get ready to suit up and catch a few. Swell will likely drop off mid-week, with the hopes of decent, smaller waves Mon-Wednesday.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “High pressure will build E over the waters today, and then will shift NE of the area tonight. A low pressure trough will form along the Georgia and Carolina coasts today, continuing tonight and then dissipating Sat. Another cold front approaches the waters Sat and moves across much of the area Sat night. As high pressure builds in over the northern and central waters, the cold front will slow and stall across the southern waters Sun into Mon. Weak low pressure will move NE along the stalled front, with high pressure gradually moving off to the NE Sun night into Mon. High pressure builds back from the E over the area Mon night, while to the S, the stalled front starts to lift N and NE as a warm front Mon night. The high pressure ridge will persist across the outer waters Tue and Tue night, while another cold front approaches from the NW.
It’s a chilly 43* here at the beach with lots of sun. Look for a high of 67* today with lots of sun this afternoon.
Water temperature is around 61*.
Sunrise is at 7:06 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:14 p.m.
