Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, December 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Just a heads up. We will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, and will be closed on New Year’s Day. We will open for normal business hours on Monday, January 2. Happy New Year.
Waves at the Washout this morning are thigh-waist high. Maybe a larger in a set in the stomach high range. It looks like there might be a couple fun lines for the high volume board, given the wave formation and glass this morning.
Winds are north, north-east at 5 knots. Surf zone is clean.
Look for winds to continue north, north east at 5 knots this morning. Going west, south west at 1-5 knots this afternoon. Wind direction may add some texture to the surface, but it won’t be strong enough to create drift or mush.
Tide is coming in. High tide will be at 1:59 pm. Low tide will be at 8:01 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.6 ft at 9.1 seconds in a small medium-period east, south-east swell.
Today into tonight, we see a high pressure settle itself off the mid-Atlantic moving more offshore as a low-pressure system moves in for the weekend. This should begin some onshore flow generating some south-east swell. Look for a slow building trend today into Saturday, but south winds will likely keep things fairly choppy for Saturday as a cold front approaches the marine area. Waves could clean up nicely for New Year’s as the tide comes in late morning and the winds switch west behind a cold front. That would be a great way to start 2023.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “High pressure will prevail today. A cold front will move through Saturday night, followed by high pressure through early next week. Unsettled weather could return for the middle of next week.”
It’s not cold this morning. It’s 56* and mostly cloudy. Look for clouds mixed with some sun, and a high of 72*.
Water temperature went way down over the past few days. It’s 52*, and you’ll need a 4/3 booties, gloves and a hood for this weekend’s swell.
Sunrise is at 7:22 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:24 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
