Wave Forecast: Waist-to-chest. Slightly bigger.
Traffic: Not much.
Parking: Lots.
Dangers: None.

Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for your Friday, February 18 at 8:30 a.m.

Surf at The Washout this morning is waist-to-chest high. Maybe a bigger set.

Winds are south-west at 15 to 20 knots, and surf-zone is side-shore and choppy with some drift up the beach.

Look for increasing south-west winds as a cold front passes through this morning. Winds go west this afternoon. Hopefully the surf will clean up some this afternoon as winds become more off-shore.

We have a high tide as of report time. Low tide will be at 2:55 p.m., and high tide will be at 9:06 p.m.

The Edisto Buoy is reading 8 ft at 9 seconds in a short-period south-west wind swell, with a south-east medium period swell. Plenty of swell at the buoy and should be some surf in the water all day.

Looks like this south swell might clean up some this afternoon after a cold front passage. Winds come more off-shore this afternoon, but it’ll likely be gusty. On Saturday, winds come more north with colder temperatures. There should be some small leftovers on Saturday morning. Winds go strong north/north-east Saturday afternoon, and we see high-angled north-east wind swell fill in late weekend. High pressure sets up to our north-east off the mid-Atlantic states early next week, and we could see some small, lazy trade wind swell with slightly cleaner conditions Monday though Wednesday of next week.

Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our area currently calls for: “A cold front will pass through the area today, followed by high pressure through early next week. A cold front is then expected to approach the region by mid-week.”

It’s a warm 65* with shower and clouds this morning. Temperature stays about the same today after a cold front passage. Sun comes out this afternoon.

Water Temperature is around 54*.

Sunrise is at 7:01 a.m., and sunset will be at 6:06 p.m.
