Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, January 31 at 10:30 a.m.
Well, we were waiting for the fog to burn off, but it’s still as thick as peanut-butter, so we took a chance and went to take the pictures, but couldn’t get much in the way of visuals. We apologize for any disservice to the Folly surf-report reading community.
Taste of Folly is Saturday, so keep that in mind if you come to surf tomorrow morning.
There is – however – some Ok surf. Especially considering how bad it’s been.
Waves are thigh to waist with stomach sets from what we can see.
Winds are south-west at 8 knots, and are expected to pick up today 15 to 20 knots.
Winds are light offshore, forecasted to come ENE around 10-15mph later today.
We had a high tide at report time, low tide at 2:40 p.m. High tide at 8:33 p.m.
Edisto Bouy is reading 3.3 feet at 6 seconds in a slowly developing south/south-east short period wind swell.
Surf is starting to show signs of life, and should increase today into the chest high range but it’ll be choppy this afternoon. Something to ride, though. Saturday morning will be your chance to get some clean up. Winds will come off-shore at some point tomorrow morning, so hopefully this will give you cold-water chargers a quick clean up Saturday at the morning’s high tide. Into next week, we see on-shore flow and warm temperatures, so it might be time to dust off the 4/3 and get back on it, as we see long-period swell from the south-east filling in Monday through Wednesday. We’ll keep you updated
The water temperature is around 46*. That’s 4/3, booties, hoods and gloves around these parts.
It is 58* with a high of 61* and clouds with some sun from time to time.
Sunrise was at 7:17 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:50 p.m.
Thanks for tuning in for the Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast.
