Good morning this is Brad with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Friday, January 13th at 8:30 a.m.
Just a reminder, A Taste of Folly will take place on Folly Saturday. Center Street will be shut down, so plan accordingly if you are coming to surf or just coming to party.
Waves at the Washout this morning are chest high, with an occasional larger set. Wave surface has moderate texture secondary to the wind, but maintains great form and sizeable walls.
Winds are west, south-west at 10-12 knots, and surf zone is semi-glassy.
We see winds continue at this rate through the afternoon at 10-15 knots, and surf gets choppy later today as west, south-west wind swell begins to build.
High tide will be at 11:34 a.m., and low tide will be at 5:54 p.m.
The Edisto Buoy is reading 2.3 feet at 13.8 seconds in a building, long-period, south swell.
We have a strong cold front approaching today clocking our winds around to the west/south-west, and we see a continuation of this cold front into Saturday night as it moves north-east. Unfortunately, high pressure sets up again tonight, and waves will be small and cold for your weekend and into early next week. Keep an eye on potential cold front moving into central areas Tuesday, but unlikely it’ll push much swell. Today’s the best chance to catch some fun rides.
Our NOAA Marine Weather Forecast calls for: “A weather disturbance will track across the region today through tonight. Surface high pressure will then return this weekend and is expected to linger into early next week. A weak front could cross through the area towards the middle of next week. Another front may sweep across the region by late next week.”
It’s a little cloudy and breezy at the beach. It is 56*. Look for a wet beach day with clouds moving in this afternoon and a high of 61*.
Water temperature, it’s 55*.
Sunrise is at 7:23 a.m., and sunset will be at 5:35 p.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
